eagles wings

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

yesterday was a hard day here in the allen household. jeremy received a phone call that his dad had passed away. rather unexpectedly. it's been a tough time for sure.

carl was a lovely, lovely man that loved life, well, more than life. he lived on the west coast, so we didn't get to see him nearly as often as any of us would've liked, but when we were able to visit with each other, you could count on him having plans for us. or better yet, "we'd just play it by ear."

cayden was able to meet his papa rip a couple of times. and man, did that little guy love him. always tons of laughs to be had, cause you see, papa rip was a funny man. and he liked entertaining. so naturally, cayden loved him to death.

i don't really know that any words can do any of this justice, but i think the above photo can. these are the clouds that god provided us with yesterday evening. and the lyrics to the song above just popped in my head. i think it was a perfect showing of god's love for his children. and seeing this simple showing has helped jeremy in more ways than one can know.

with all that being said, if you pray, please keep our family in your prayers. and if you don't, just keep us in your thoughts. it's something that no one is ever quite prepared for regardless of timing. we're both taking several days off from work to just spend time with each other and i'm doing my best to help jeremy through this time. much love to all.

sick day

yesterday? our little guy was feeling pretty crummy. we rushed into his room when we heard him struggling to breathe and coughing. little dude looked pretty sad too. snot/mucus streaming out of his nose and mouth. it was quite the site. felt his forehead and kiddo was on fire. so, with a temperature of 101, it was most definitely a day to stay at home.

this is kind of extreme for me to realize, but this was probably one of the first days i've gotten to spend at home with cayden all day since he was a teeny tiny thing. i mean, he's hardly ever sick, so he's not often home from school. and on the weekends, we do lots of things together as a family. so while he was sick and a little puny, it was nice to get to spend some one-on-one time with my little man.

we spent most of the day cuddled up to blankets and stuffed animals (him, not me) watching the backyardigans over and over. after i asked cayden if he wanted to watch "one more" episode, he'd continually ask "one mo?" after each one ended. he also learned the phrases "oh no!," "peepee" and "yellow" yesterday. (as a side note, learning peepee and yellow have absolutely nothing in common. although, yes, i could see where you guys might think that.) also? best laundry helper ever!

he seemed to be in much better spirits this morning. but now? i'm missing my cuddle time. and maybe i'm missing the backyardigans too. ok, yeah, no that's not true. but i do miss my little sweetheart.

{new product monday} eReader sleeves

it's a gorgeous monday here. ice everywhere, and if you live in the south, or have family that lives in the south, you know that means that everything closes down. the roads, daycare, offices, etc. so, while it's cold and gross outside, it did get everyone a free day off from work. and? it also allowed me to get this update ready and posted sooner than i was thinking!

anyway, on to the goods: i introduce to you the newest items in the hugs & kisses designs shop!

aren't they pretty? you'll find sleeves for both a kindle/nook and an iPad. currently they are being offered in two different patterns: {i love you moorish} and {never wave goodbye}. they are both bright, happy options that instantly make these gray, winter days cheer up just a bit.

my eReader sleeves don't have zippers (you can always request a custom one if you really want a zipper). after taking a survey around the interwebs, it was pointed out to me that unless the zipper is padded too, then it might scratch your eReader screen. and that? would be a total bummer! so check them out when you get a chance, and grab one while they last!

2010 a year in music

This blog has been hijacked by jeremy, rebecca’s husband and cayden’s dad. I am not much of a writer and is the main reason I've never posted anything. Please enjoy the/my first post of the year....

Music is a wonderful part of life and it is something that has been a part of mine almost 35 years. My mother is and has been a music minister for almost 30 years and used to sing to me all the time. Hated it as a kid but now that I’m older and somewhat wiser, I see the importance of music in a childs life. Now I can’t sing like my mother (my sister got that talent), but my great love of music I accredit to a mix of my mother’s gospel roots and my father’s love of rock n’ roll.

2010, being the first full year of raising cayden, I surrounded him with any, if not all kinds of music. This past year in music brought about some of the best I have heard in a long time. The list I have compiled is in alphabetical order. It is a broad spectrum of MY (not rebecca’s) musical tastes. Most songs cayden has approved with a foot tap, maybe some light singing or a head bob or two. May the music in 2011 be even better.
